Opel Ampera Police Car Revealed

The whole world is slowly making the big step towards more environmentally-friendly vehicles and just like us, the buyers, state authorities and police forces have to do it too. And the European police troops are the first that could use the new Chevy Volt as a way to fight against law offenders, as Opel has just rolled out two photos showing its very own Volt, the European Ampera, dressed like a cop car. Technical details are the same as for the regular model, and although using an EV with a limited autonomy might not be such a great idea when chasing criminals, we must admit that it looks damn good. Opel Ampera provides enough room for four passengers and will be equipped with a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery that will provide a clean ride for the first 40-80 kilometers. For longer rides, gasoline-fueled engine/generator can seamlessly extend the total driving range to more than 500 kilometers on a full tank. The 111 kW/150 hp electric motor delivers 370 Nm torque from a standstill. It accelerates the Ampera from zero to 100 km/h in around nine seconds and enables a maximum speed of 161 km/h (100 mph). The car is expected to be priced at around EUR 35,000 when it will go on sale later this year, but more information will be provided at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show where Opel will present the production ready Ampera. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
