Fiat has officially introduced the new Uno supermini in South America. The Italian automaker released photos and initial information on the new Uno, which is the spiritual successor of the original Uno from the eighties.

The first country in which the Uno will go on sale is Brazil, where the manufacturing of the vehicle also takes place. Brazil will get the new car this month, with other South American countries to follow in the second half of this year.

Measuring 3,770mm in length, 1,643mm in width and 1,490mm in height, with a wheelbase length of 2,370mm, the new Uno fits between the Panda and the Punto EVO as far as dimensions go. Boot capacity stands at 280 liters and the design of the car resemble the Panda’s, especially in the rear. There are however details that make the Uno unique, such as the three air vents in the grille.

The interior design is more simple and less stylish than in other Fiat products - at least compared to the ones sold in Europe. The exterior appearance will include even a pseudo-SUV version called “Way” that features a higher road clearance and rugged looks.

The new Uno will be offered with a choice of two new flex-fuel petrol engines, a 1.0-liter unit producing 73HP when running on alcohol and 75HP on gasoline, and a 1.4-liter unit delivering a maximum output of 88HP on alcohol and 85HP on gasoline.

Both engines are paired with a five-speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels. Depending on markets, other engines could be used as well. Fiat has yet to confirm if the Uno will come to Europe.
