The new Fiat Uno pictures were leaked on the Internet two years ahead of the official launch of the car. The all-new supermini will fit between the Panda and the Grande Punto in the Fiat range and will appear on the market in 2012 as part of the company’s five-year plan.

The car will bear the popular Uno name and will be a replacement for the original Uno and for the Punto's second-generation, both of which are still in production in different parts of the world. Launched in 1983, the modern and spacious Uno supermini was a sales hit for Fiat.

The design of the new Uno features strong Panda influences, especially around the tailgate and the vertical tail-lights. However, the new Uno has rounder shapes than the Panda. The three air-vents in the front are a reference to the original Panda.

Autocar sources say the new model will be based on a shortened and simplified version of the Grande Punto platform. The car will be around 3.8 meters long, similar in size with the Mazda2. The most important aspect of the Uno will be the interior space, with Fiat targeting to build the most spacious car of its class.

The new Uno is expected to be priced very aggressively, since it will be built at Fiat’s Betim plant in Brazil, starting with 2012. The factory has recently announced plans to hire 1000 new workers and increase output by six percent to 3200 cars per day. Previous scoop photos showed that the Uno would be sold in entry-level, upmarket sporting and pseudo-SUV guises.
