Although we've watched every car commercial ever made, we've never seen one featuring a Serbian professional tennis player and a small, cute French car that appeals to women. It had to be done, didn't it?
Novak Djokovic is by no means you typical Peugeot 208 customer, is he? The 26-year old legend of the clay court is a relative giant, all 1.88 meters (6 ft 2) and 80 kg (176 lbs) of him. And yet here he is in the second smallest car made by Peugeot, sitting quite comfortably and having loads of headroom. Either this is a trick of the camera, or Peugeot did something funny to the car.
Speaking of "funny", this commercial has that. Without explaining all the humor out of it, we'll mention that it's about running out of balls and going for a drive to get some more. Is it a good commercial? Before we answer that, we have to mention that the 208 has a predominantly Female buyer demographic, which might enjoy watching the handsome player shoot balls out of the court.
For the male half of the Peugeot customer base, seeing Djokovic driving the 208 might be the final push they need to visit a dealership and buy the car. So by that account, it's definitely a good ad.
Currently number 2 in the world according to at ATP singles rankings, the Serbian player is clawing his was towards bridging the gap with Nadal. Of course, the no. 1 mantle is not as important to us as how well he drives the little Peugeot.
