No EcoBoost for EcoSport in China?

Ford makes some killer compacts and mid-size vehicles, not to mention the pickups. But when it goes below the supermini, strange things happen. One example would be the new Ka, which is a Fiat 500 based oddity.
Another strange small Ford is the EcoSport, a crossover smaller than the Kuga/Escape, designed in Brazil, and expected to arrive in many other markets, including Europe, India and China.

With a name that includes the name “Eco” and diminutive size, you’d imagine it will get the new 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. But that’s not the case in China. Instead, it will reportedly have a more basic 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 110 horsepower. It sounds good enough, but also a bad marketing decision.

The likely reason for the decision is that the EcoBoost is not assembled in China, and the local government has placed heavy taxes on imported automobile components.
