This new version of the fourth generation (T33) X-Trail also has some eye-catching design updates, water-resistant seats, and an optional e-4ORCE electrified all-wheel drive powertrain for enhanced "traction in all conditions."
The Japanese automaker first introduced the compact X-Trail crossover SUV in 2000, more than a decade before it unified the iterations with the American Rogue in 2013. So, while the latter has only reached its third generation, the T33 is actually the fourth iteration of Europe's Nissan X-Trail nameplate.

Still positioned below the truck-based Xterra and Pathfinder, the latest X-Trail (or Rogue in North America) rides on the Renault–Nissan CMF-CD platform and is closely related to the Nissan Qashqai plus the fourth Mitsubishi Outlander. It's always been viewed as a distinctive family-oriented compact CUV, but now Nissan wants to make the electrified SUV a little more adventurous.

As such, European markets will see the introduction of a new N-Trek variant – just a few weeks after it made its debut for the Australian market alongside the Navara N-Trek, for example. Just like in the Land Down Under, the electrified family SUV "takes a further step into the wild (…), aimed at daring and adventurous families with a love of the great outdoors."

The fresh Nissan X-Trail N-Trek will easily slot in the lineup between the N-Connecta and Tekna trims, and the new grade adds styling elements like better-protected lower bumper guards at the front and rear, integrated LED foglamps, new 18-inch diamond-cut gloss black alloy wheels, as well as dark gloss black wing mirrors and dark roof rails.

Moving inside, nobody will fear those nasty stains anymore because the company introduced a new water-resistant, wipe-clean upholstery – "so whether they're trail running, mountain biking or just splashing in muddy puddles with the kids, customers can jump into their N-Trek with less concern for the upholstery." The X-Trail N-Trek is available in both five- and seven-seat variants, and there are also rubber floor mats and a reversible boot-liner.

The wide range of accessories, which ranges from towbars to roof bars and from bike racks to cargo area organizers, is also compatible with the N-Trek, and customization options include the metallic Gun Metallic or Champagne Silver, pearlescent Pearl White, Diamond Black, and Ceramic Grey, plus two-tone appearances mixing a black roof with Pearl White, Champagne Silver, and Ceramic Grey. Regarding the technical details, the N-Trek is mated to the e-Power and e-4ORCE powertrains.

The two models include a turbocharged three-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine used solely as a generator to charge the battery, and the e-Power has a single electric motor powering the front wheels, while the e-4ORCE has a motor for each axle. "We started the development of the X-Trail N-Trek with the simple motto: Let's Get Dirty. It captures the spirit of a core group of X-Trail customers who embrace adventure and the outdoors and want to use their vehicle to enjoy time and adventures together. The X-Trail N-Trek has been designed for them," says Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President Marketing & Mobility AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe & Oceania).
