Derived from the NP300-series Navara, the Frontier was redesigned in 2021 for the 2022 model year. Produced in Mississippi, the mid-size truck is due a mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year.
Our spy photographers captured two camouflaged prototypes testing in the United States of America, namely a blue truck with LED reflector-style headlights and a gray truck boasting halogen reflector headlights. These headlight configurations are currently rated acceptable and poor by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Pictured in Bluestone Pearl, the better-equipped prototype appears to be a combination between the SL and Pro-X trim levels. Equipped with Hankook Dynapro AT2 all-terrain rubber, said truck also flaunts a rugged wheel design not available on the outgoing 2024 Nissan Frontier. A new design for the radiator grille also needs to be mentioned.

The Gun Metallic truck sports a bit more camo, yet Nissan could not camouflage its new-for-2025 alloy wheels. Both vehicles may be camouflaged like there's no tomorrow out back, yet not much in the way of stylistic differences can be noticed from these pictures. While on the subject of exterior details, both trucks have sliding rear windows.

As far as the cabin is concerned, the carparazzi speculate that a digital instrument cluster may be in the offing. Even though it's highly possible, bear in mind that Nissan is notorious for its aggressive cost-cutting measures. On the other hand, remember that a digital instrument cluster would enable Nissan to hike up the starting price of the mid-size pickup.

One could further expect a revised infotainment system. The most likely candidate would be the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in from the commercially successful Rogue. Speaking of which, the front-biased crossover is available with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. By comparison, the Frontier offers a 7.0-inch screen in the gauge cluster and touchscreens measuring 8.0 and 9.0 inches.

From the standpoint of mechanical bits and pieces, don't look forward to any major changes for the naturally aspirated V6 engine and the torque-converter automatic with nine forward gears. The VQ38DD makes 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet (381 Nm) of torque, putting it above the competing Tacoma, Ranger, and Colorado. The JR913E is JATCO's take on the Mercedes-Benz 9G-TRONIC. Said transmission weighs around 100 kilos and it's good for 700 Nm or 516 pound-feet.

Starting at $30,510 for the King Cab S 4x2, $31,810 for the Crew Cab S 4x4, and $33,710 for the King Cab S 4x4, the Frontier was the second best-selling midsizer in the United States during the first quarter of 2024. According to Nissan, the Yokohama-based automaker moved 19,744 units in the three-month period. The Toyota Tacoma, meanwhile, led the segment in Q1 2024 thanks to 21,558 deliveries.

Although the full-sized Titan is going the way of the dodo after model year 2024, the folks at Nissan are reportedly engaged in developing an electric truck for North America with the help of Mitsubishi. The alleged truck would be manufactured in Mexico.
