Nissan Preparing Renault Entry on the Chinese Market

Nissan is smoothing the path for Renault’s entry on the Chinese market, as Dow Jones reports, citing Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.

"When the decision will be taken by us to go to China we are going to find a network of suppliers, a network of dealers and a manufacturing base and a system for us to move very quickly," thanks to Nissan's presence, Ghosn was quoted as saying.

Until now, Renault has made strategic investments in Russia, India and other markets. Ghosn, the head of both companies, told analysts that the company must ensure its development in these countries before entering the Chinese market.

"Every time I go to China as head of Nissan I explain [to Chinese officials] that one day Renault will come and they know it and they are expecting it. They know that we're going to share a lot of the assets and everything is ready,", Ghosn told Reuters.

"We have to be ready to make a great performance in China", now the world's largest auto market, he added.

Nissan is the top Japanese car producer in China. In 2009, the carmaker’s sales saw a 39% increase to 756,000 vehicles. For 2010, the company expects its sales to reach 1 million units.

Renault officials have confirmed that the country will launch 5 new models on the Chinese market in 2010 (these are imported): the Clio, the Megane Sedan & Hatchback and two Scenic versions.
