Five New Renaults for China in 2010

French car manufacturer Renault is looking to expand its presence in China so it will launch 5 new models in the country in 2010. According to a report by gasgoo.com, the five models to be launched next year in the country are the Clio, the two Scenic versions, Megane Sedan and Megane Hatchback. However, the Clio will only arrive in limited numbers as the company wants to test the market prior to a nationwide launch.

Renault officials have already confirmed the news and emphasized that the French manufacturer has high expectations from the Chinese market, especially thanks to the enthusiastic figures it posted in the last few months.

"China has become Renault's fastest-growing and most profitable market in the world," said Robert Chan, president of Renault's Greater China division.

Furthermore, Renault might also start local production of certain models but the company at this time wants to wait for the market reaction following the introduction of the future 5 models. This move would be necessary in case the demand is high or if Renault wants to reduce costs for the models sold locally, Chan explained.

Renault initially aimed to sell 2,000 cars in China in 2009 but the French manufacturer is now planning to deliver up to 6,000 units. The Koleos SUV, which was officially launched in China in April, is expected to post sales of up to 5,000 units by the end of the year, the aforementioned source noted. The Renault Koleos is produced by Renault Samsung Motors at its plant in Busan, South Korea.
