The Nissan Leaf retails in the US for $37,250. Factoring in state grants and incentives and you can slash about $10,000 off that, leaving you with $27,250. Still too expensive? Well, now, two Californian dealers (North Bay Nissan and Fontana Nissan) are offering a further $5,000 off the list price.
This means that you can have a brand new Leaf on your driveway for around $23,000, which is very close to the estimated ideal price to make EVs truly popular. Also, aside from these California-based offers, Campbell Nelson Nissan from Seattle no longer requires a down payment, only 39 monthly installments, at $369 dollars per month.
All these measures are definitely caused by the recent battery problems faced by the Leaf, as well as falling sales, in recent months. Will it be enough to get its sales back on track? We can’t say for sure - they will boost its appeal, but we don’t really know if it’s enough to win over potential Volt buyers.
