Nissan Leaf Can Power Your Home Too!

Nichicon Corporation has developed a system through which a Nissan Leaf can be connected to the power grid of your house, much like the “Leaf to Home” system, with the added benefit of being able to supply your house with electricity during the day, after having charged all night, when the cost of electricity is at its lowest.

In a similar manner to the Toyota system, the Nicicon “EV Power Station”, is quite clever charging the Leaf’s battery up twice as fast as the normal charger, while also being capable of powering your house for 2 whole days, if the Leaf’s battery is fully charged.

If you want the system installed in your house, it will cost around $6,000 (€4,700), without any subsidies included. If you are a Nissan Leaf owner, this may be a worthwhile investment, as it could dramatically slash your electricity bills, thus you’d be able to recoup the money gradually and then start saving up.(

However, this makes us wonder: since some Leafs are already having battery issues, if this system were to be used every, along with the car’s batteries to power both it and the house, wouldn’t the lifespan of the batteries be considerably reduced?
