With the butch look of a GT-R Nismo supercar and the chunky features of a crossover, the Juke-R Nismo has been tantalizingly shown today.
It's pretty clear that this Goodwood-bound machine is a re-visit of the Juke-R project, stuffed with a powerful two-turbo V6 and all its connecting parts.
The original Juke-R models from a few years ago were equipped with 480 hp engines from the early 2007-8 GR-R. However, the same engine now produces 600 horsepower, so we're curious to see what effect this will have on performance.
It seems like a crazy idea to take the motor out of the $150,000 Nissan GT-R Nismo and stuff it into a $20,000 crossover. However, people went bonkers for the Juke-R when it beat Ferraris and Lambos on the track a couple of years ago.
Mind you, this isn't a simple engine swap. The Juke has its engine mounted transversally while the GTR has it longitudinally. The driveshaft towards the rear needs to be shortened by a lot while the body needs extra bracing.
To make room for the engine under the bonnet, the dashboard has been moved back, and the rear bench was removed completely.
The price of all these changes? About £400,000, which would make this the most expensive crossover ever made. You could buy a Ferrari and Lamborghini for that kind of cash, but everybody and their cat has one of those.
Using the latest technology, styling and running gear from NISMO products, the supercar beating crossover will be unveiled and unleashed at Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 25th.
