Nissan Doubles CVT Warranty, Offers Reimbursements

Nissan is selling several models with a CVT option in the United States and, in attempt to get closer to its buyers, the Japanese manufacturer decided to double the CVT warranty from five years and 60,000 miles to ten years and 120,000 miles. The warranty covers CVT transmission repairs, replacement and relating towing on all 2003-2010 model year Nissan vehicles equipped with this option, while the warranty for the rest of the components remains unchanged.

The best of all is that Nissan is also offering reimbursements to those who have already paid for a CVT repair if the operations were covered by the warranty extension.

"Further, in the unlikely event that your vehicle's transmission should need repair beyond the extended warranty period we are working to decrease the cost of repair and have already reduced the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of a replacement CVT. In addition, we continuously strive to enhance our products, and have made ongoing improvements to our CVTs over the years," Nissan said in a letter to consumers.

The warranty extension includes several 2003-2010 models, including Murano, Sentra, Rogue, cube, Versa, Maxima and Altima.

Consumers who are seeking reimbursements must download the Reimbursement Claim Form and send it to Nissan. The deadline for reimbursement applications is July 31, 2010.

"If you seek coverage for a repair under this extended warranty you will need to bring your vehicle to an authorized Nissan dealer. The factory-trained technical staff at the Nissan dealer will have the diagnostic tools and knowledge to provide you with the appropriate service and submit your warranty claim."
