No longer an exclusive battle between long time Australian rivals Holden and Ford, the 2013 V8 Supercars got some fresh metal from Mercedes-Benz and Nissan. And while fighting the two local Goliaths ain’t easy, Nissan managed to earn its first win in the series.
The breakthrough happened at Winton last weekend, when the V8 Altima driven by James Moffat took the checkered flag in the first of three races hosted by the Winton Motor Raceway in Benalla, Victoria. Moffat was followed by teammate Michael Caruso, with the rest of the Top 10 consisting of only Ford and Holden vehicles.
"This is for everybody who has helped me get to this stage, my family... and everybody at Nissan Motorsport who has made these two Hornets one-two. This is awesome - it can't get any better than that," a delighted Moffat said after the race.
After scoring his first season win, James Moffat sits in 13th position in the Drivers’ Championship, which is topped by Jamie Whincup (Holden), followed by Will Davison (Ford) and Mark Winterbottom (Ford).
