The current generation SEAT models are impressive to say the least. You’ve got a nicely refreshed Ibiza, a semi-affordable sedan and the Best Leon that has ever been made. It’s also probably the last time Volkswagen invests so much money in its ailing Spanish brand.
It’s a good thing then that the halo performance car of the range promises to be a good one. The current range of SEAT Leon models stops with 180 hp coming from the 1.8 TSI. So, can you guess what engine the Cupra will have? That’s easy, it’s always going to be a 2.0 TSI.

What’s not so easy to figure out is the output. According to Auto Express, the hottest version of the Leon will be more powerful than both the VW Golf GTI and Skoda Octabia vRS. It will have 261bhp (265 PS) from a 2.0-liter turbo engine, exactly the same as the old Cupra R.

Big changes will be made to the styling as well. It seems buyers of hot hatches don’t want insane body kits any more, as SEAT's director of vehicle engineering and chassis development, Fermin Soneira Santos told the aforementioned source the Leon Cupra will be a car “you could definitely put your mother in law in this new Cupra.”

We’ve seen this already with the Ibiza Cupra, as it too lost its craziness when it got facelifted, going from the black mouthed front end to a simple fascia with a bigger chin.

Needless to say DSG will be available, but what you guys might not expect is the first sports tourer Leon Cupra going on sale next year.
