In America, Honda is doing just great – its 2023 sales reached a tally of more than 1.3 million units, jumping 33% compared to the previous year. And most of the performance is thanks to its namesake brand.
Although Acura deliveries jumped even further – to 42% compared to Honda's almost 32% - the premium brand only sold a little more than 145k of those 1.3 million vehicles. The rest is all Honda's doing, thanks to continued interest in the CR-V compact crossover SUV but also in the passenger car lineup, with the Civic and Accord models totaling almost 400k examples.

That's not bad, right, for the eleventh generations of the Civic and Accord, respectively. As such, it is no wonder that everyone and their mother think the Japanese automaker will strive to take good care of these nameplates. Regarding the rumor mill, the general consensus is that Honda should hurry and release a Civic Hybrid into the wild to fight Toyota's Corolla series better.

They also think that the company could double the jeopardy for rivals by implementing a mid-cycle refresh on the Civic FE/FL generation since the series was introduced in 2021. Alas, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators sometimes wants to take things even further. More precisely, this virtual artist, known as Theottle on social media, has resorted to lots of CGI slicing and dicing of the FE Civic and Prelude concept into a promising twelfth-generation 2025 or 2025 Honda Civic sedan.

As always, the pixel master is keen on showing the human touch in his latest behind-the-scenes making-of video feature – where he took the current $29,100 Honda Civic Si sedan, complete with some Honda Genuine Accessories, and reskinned the attractive Honda Prelude Hybrid concept on top of it, complete with modifications to the wheelbase as well as the front and rear windscreen angles. Curiously enough, it doesn't look half bad, and we might not be all too surprised if Honda implements the Prelude styling on the Civic series further down the line.

However, we feel that this wishful-thinking design project is a little ahead of its time. According to the mid-cycle facelift tradition, Honda will surely not miss the opportunity to restyle the current FE/FL Civic series. Also, the revived Prelude – a successor to both the Civic and Accord Coupe models – is not coming too soon, even though it has already appeared in concept form at last year's Japan Mobility Show and then also made the trip to California to arrive as a Los Angeles Auto Show surprise.

So, the order of Honda Civic things should be more than logical – we're getting a Civic Hybrid first and foremost along with or a little ahead of the family-wide mid-cycle facelift procedure, and only in a few years from now we will see a completely new iteration – not the other way around.
