The next-generation Ford F-150, which is scheduled to hit dealerships for the 2015 model year, will be showcased in production form at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show next month, Bloomberg reports.
According to the same source, quoting people familiar with the matter, the Atlas Concept-inspired pickup truck will feature a brand new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission, while fuel efficiency is expected to reach into 30 mpg highway territory.

The same people claim Ford has begun building prototypes of the truck and that sales will commence in the second half of next year, as soon as the company’s plants are retooled to handle new production coordinates.

As we’ve previously reported, the 2015 F-150 will be up to 750 pounds lighter than the current truck due to extensive aluminum use for body parts. Word has it Ford is also dropping the fully boxed frame design for the new vehicle.
