Chrysler is expected to make an announcement about its next-generation Town & Country minivan very soon, a senior official with the union that represents the workers at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Canada revealed earlier this week.
Although is isn't clear when that will happen, Mike Lovric, vice-president of Unifor Local 444, said an official announcement "could come any time now". He added that the plant's 2014 schedule shows layoff weeks for November and December, likely for retooling, but cautioned that these plans are subject to change.
The current generation Chrysler Town & Country and its Dodge Caravan twin were introduced for the 2008 model year, with a major facelift applied to them in 2011. A few years ago, Fiat stated that the fifth-generation minivan will be assembled in Windsor until at least 2014.
The Canadian facility builds about 1,400 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans per day.
