Next-Gen Mustang May Be Oz Born

With the muscle car segment of the market continuing to grow, the efforts made by the manufacturers involved in the development of these type of vehicles grow in intensity, in an attempt to make future generation of the Mustang or Camaro, for instance, even more appealing than they currently are.

And since globalization is the word of the decade, a muscle car which uses design cues native not only to the US, but other parts of the world as well, can only spell success for the car maker which produces it.

According to GoAuto, Ford is already working on the next generation Mustang, a model which, perhaps in a bigger degree than any others that preceded it, might be drawn not in the US, but Australia, for instance.

Ford is currently accepting applications for the design of the new Mustang from its businesses all over the world, for the first time in history. Depending on how good the designs from other parts of the world are, the until now all-American muscle car might no longer be that.

“It is a common process we now use on every vehicle,” Derrick Kuzak, Ford's vice-president for global product development was quoted as saying by Autonews.

“When we embark on a new product, particularly one that is all-new, it involves all of the studios. Then J. Mays (group vice-president of global design) and the design team pick the best of those themes.”

So, why may the next gen Mustang come from Australia, and not, say, Europe? First off all, other Ford vehicles currently on the market or yet to be launched have been designed in Oz, like the Ranger. And secondly, the next-generation Camaro, the long time rival of the Mustang, is to use the Zeta platform developed by Holden Australia for the Commodore.
