Audi is preparing yet another reshuffling of its naming scheme after the hodge-podge of numerals for its powertrain options. Now they're thinking odd numbers for ICE-powered models and even figures for their battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).
A lot of novelties from Audi are coming in the next few months, including Avant EVs and a massive Q9 to stand tall and broad at the top of the crossover SUV lineup and battle the BMW X7 plus Mercedes-Benz GLS. Interestingly, it seems that as far as its design is concerned, the big Q9 will follow the lead of the split-headlight X7 rather than staying traditional like the recently facelifted Q7.

Well, that is the signal of change for Audi, perhaps. The company is also preparing more nameplates with the quirky styling that has made BMW quite infamous already. For example, the rumor mill expects the Ingolstadt producer to make some interesting cost-cutting changes and introduce the third-generation Q3 based on the upcoming Cupra Terramar.

Both have been spied on recently as they moved to the freezing colds near the Arctic Circle for winter testing – and we are expecting Audi to launch the new Q3 as a 2025 or 2026 model year in the United States to battle the BMW X1 and MINI Countryman alongside other premium subcompact crossovers. Interestingly, suppose we are to believe the way it has lost its heavy camouflage at the hands of the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. In that case, it might look cooler than most of Audi's contemporary CUVs.

For example, the virtual artist behind Larson Design (aka lars_o_saeltzer on social media) brings to life his CGI vision of the upcoming split-headlight Audi Q3, and while its profile feels primarily unchanged compared to the current iteration at the front and rear, there are some significant changes. The new split-headlight design is joined by a geometrical-patterned radiator grille, and at the rear, there are winged LED taillights, among other things.

Competing with the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1, this hypothetical Audi Q3 is far sleeker than the outgoing generation – which could be due to its transition as a Cupra Terramar sibling as well as the novel styling. Additionally, the spied prototypes have revealed that Audi is thinking closely about the backlash surrounding Q3's interior as it wants a veritable revolution inside.

Last but not least, the shared platform is MQB Evo, meaning the next Audi Q3 is also twinned with the Volkswagen Tiguan, not just the Cupra Terramar, so it's expected to grow in all critical dimensions and sport the group's traditional mix of gasoline, diesel, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The best of all could be the fresh 1.5 TSI Evo2 plug-in hybrid packing 268 horsepower and a large 19.7 kWh battery pack for a potential EV range of up to 100 km (62 miles).
