The Audi A8 is expected to receive a facelift early next year, with the technical side of the upgrades being focused on enhancing the engine range. Thus, the V8 TDI unit will be boosted to over 400 hp, while the W12 unit might receive a twin-turbo setup.
However, it is the next generation of Audi’s flagship sedan that will bring radical changes, some of which will change the model’s appeal altogether. The next A8 should arrive in 2016 or 2017 and should leave behind its current all-aluminum body for a hybrid one that mixes the material with high-strength steel and composite materials.
The A8 will ride on a modular platform that is currently being developed by Porsche and will also be used for the next-generation Panamera, as well as for Bentley models. This would bring one change that is currently hard to imagine - the architecture would allow the car to also offer RWD configurations.
This would make the A8 the first RWD sedan coming from Audi after the war - DTM racers don’t count, of course.
