We’ve talked about VW preparing a large crossover that would be tailored to the needs of the US market and now VW CEO Martin Winterkorn has confirmed that the vehicle is coming, adding that it will be built in America.
The executive didn’t offer too many additional details about the vehicle, which uses the “B-SUV” internal code. The rest of the details, along with the release schedule will be announced at the beginning of next year.
The vehicle is expected to be underpinned by the VW Group’s MQB modular platform and to be significantly more affordable than the VW Touareg. Thus, we’re not expecting it to have outstanding offroading abilities, not that these would be necessary in the segment where it plays. It will come with a third row of seats in a bid to steal customers from vehicles like the Honda Pilot and the Ford Explorer.
