Mercedes-Benz's baby sister brand has just let slip official sketches of its next smart fortwo city hatch which turned up on a blog today. The car is less than 24 hours away from being fully revealed and maybe it's high time we got really excited at the prospect of a perfect 4-wheeler designed for urban navigation. First impressions? Instantly recognizable as a smart, the new car still manages to make radical design changes changes that give off a more masculine appearance.
As previously reported, the fortwo will become a two-box design instead of a single-box one. In simpler terms, it now has a longer front end, just like the new Renault Twingo 3, with which this shares its platform. But don't for a second thing that the engine is now at the front. It's still tucked away under the boot floor. Even from these sketches, we can tell all the proportions are the same except for the (increased) width.

Another nice touch is the new Tridion Safety Cell, which is thicker and connects to the taillights. The wheels are still placed at the extreme ends of the car, but on the next fortwo, the arches bulge more to give it a muscular look.

Inside, the two-seater will feature an effervescent combination of colors, as previewed by a single sketch of its cabin. The similarity to a Swatch watch is not coincidental, neither being that to a Renault Twingo.

smart's big reveal will take place Berlin, Germany, on Wednesday night. We expect them to announce an engine range made up of 0.9-liter three-cylinder units, offered with both manual and automatic gearboxes. However, full details will most likely only be provided at the Paris Motor Show in October.
