Not only motorcycles are hard to spot in traffic, but stock ones are also hard to hear. Some folks simply don’t want a loud exhaust, and most of the standard issued bike horns are a joke. Luckily you can turn towards the aftermarket and swap that with an airhorn, like this new Screaming Banshee model that guarantees over 120 dB.
Compared to the previous model, the new Screaming Banshee Shockwave is 1/3 smaller, more ergonomic, easier to fit and, of course, louder. The startup company has labeled the devilish little airhorn at 123+ dB.

One-hundred-and-three freaking decibels coming out a device about as big as a coffee cup. For comparison, the level of noise it outputs almost matches the one of a jet engine or a loud rock concert. And the damn thing costs under a hundred bucks.

For a motorcycle rider, it’s a small price to pay, considering how many times their stock horns haven’t been heard by drivers having loud music in their cars. This thing, sounding like you’re about to be hit by a brakeless freight train, should take care of that. Oh, and the system can be wired to your headlights to flash when operated.

Mounting the Shockwave is quite easy. You unscrew the standard horn on your motorcycle and throw it away, bolt the airhorn in its place, cut to size and crimp two terminals to some wires, plug them to the horn connectors, feed a wire to the battery, one on the frame to act as grounding and two more to the headlights.

Local law might forbid such devices, so do check if it’s legal in your area. However, the airhorn works in two modes - if you press the horn button for a brief period, it sounds like a standard unit. Press it for more than a second and the hell breaks loose.

The project can still be found on Kickstarter at the moment of writing this piece, waiting to be funded later in July, as it already raised the pledged money. For more info, you can also check the video below.
