New Mitsubishi Small Car Coming

Mitsubishi plans to expand its model range with the addition of a new small vehicle. The company is now offering us the first sketches of the upcoming car.

The vehicle will come with a dynamic design that will allow it to appeal to young customers. However, the car will be targeted at a larger audience. The vehicle’s styling cues offer us an idea of how the future Colt will look like. As for the engine range, this will include units with a high level of efficiency. The automaker should offer petrol powerplants with displacements of 1.0 and 1.2 liters.

The new small car will come to the world via a company’s production site in Thailand. The plant, which is the first new development of this kind for the carmaker in 16 years could reach an annual output capacity of up to 200,000 units in 2013.

However, when talking about the vehicle’s availability on different markets things get complicated. The small car will be offered on emerging markets, as well as in Japan, with the company expected to set a retail price of around EUR10,150 ($13,500) in Thailand. Unfortunately, the automotive produced hasn’t offered any details about the vehicle’s availability in Europe.

Mitsubishi’s new small player will make its official debut at next year’s Geneva Auto Show.

We know that the two aren’t necessarily direct competitors, but we can’t help comparing the aforementioned vehicle with the next generation of the Kia Picanto, which has also been teased these days. The two will meet in March 2011, at the Geneva event.
