New-Generation BMW E24 6 Series Is a Too Modern Version of a Legend

The BMW E24 is considered by many a legend, and at some level, this kind of makes sense. It was the car that marked the beginning of the 6 Series, coming with a 2-door coupe body style that people truly loved.
And despite so many years having passed since it was replaced by the E63, the E24 is still around these days, and you really shouldn’t be surprised if you see one in mint condition being driven around the city. This is because the E24 still has millions of fans across the world, and there are lots of units being taken care of properly out there.

Car designer Grigory Butin wanted to give the BMW 6 Series E24 a modern facelift that would bring it in line with what one can expect from the German carmaker these days, essentially imagining a new version of the 6 Series based on the old model.

The renderings you see here come with the same coupe body style, but with a much more modern look overall, all mixed with design cues that are clearly the signature of BMW. The grille, for example, makes it pretty clear this is a BMW, but the artist has combined all of these with new-gen ideas that may not necessarily fit the modern E24 just right.

For example, the side mirrors seem to be based on a camera system similar to the one used on the Audi e-tron and which BMW is yet to add to its model lineup. But while the cameras are a brilliant piece of technology, many wouldn’t go so far for a successor to the iconic E24.

At the end of the day, these renderings have little in common with the original BMW 6 Series, but this doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t look good. If anything, they’re a new version of the second-generation 6 Series rather than the rebirth of the legendary E24.
