Google has released new versions of the Google app, and these new updates are good news for Android Auto too, as this is the engine that’s powering the Assistant experience behind the wheel.

More specifically, the Google app is the one that brings us Google Assistant on both Android and Android Auto, and if anything goes wrong with the voice commands when driving, this is the one to blame.

So if you’re wondering what the Google app has in common with Android Auto, it all comes down to the Assistant experience and the voice control that we use for things like navigation and music playback.

This week, Google rolled out several new updates for the Google app, and some of them might bring good news for Android Auto.

First and foremost, Google rolled out several builds that are part of the 11.8 release beginning with May 6. Google app version 11.8.8 was followed by 11.8.9 a few days later, which itself was then replaced by 11.8.10 and eventually 11.8.11 today. These small updates are an indication that the new versions only include small fixes and no new features.

Also today, however, Google shipped version 11.9.16 of the Google app, a more significant update over build number 11.8.11. We still don’t know what’s included in this one, but the version increase could be a sign that more important improvements are hiding under the hood.

As for the things that a new version of the Google app could address, the search company itself has recently acknowledged several of them. For example, some people struggled with an “'nternet connection is not stable' error when trying to send messages, while others complained their text messages were read in a different language.

Both of these are related to Google Assistant, so hopefully, the new versions of Google app refines the experience in Android Auto too.
