New Gen Fuso Canter Unveiled

Daimler's Asian subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) today pulled the wraps off the new generation of one of their most successful models, the Fuso Canter, eight years after the current version of the model hit the market.

The new generation comes with several technical changes, most of them aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The model is powered by the Fuso 4P10 diesel engine, paired with a Duonic dual-clutch transmission. This is the first use of such a transmission as standard on a commercial vehicle.

The engine-transmission combination allows the Canter to achieve in between five and eight percent improvement in fuel efficiency. The engine brake fitted as standard on the model allows the reduction of the wear of the brakes and, according to Daimler, cuts maintenance cost by a budget-saving 20 percent.

After eight years, the all-new vehicle replaces the very successful predecessor model in Japan,” said Albert Kirchmann, MFTBC CEO. “The new Canter’s vehicle concept sets new benchmarks for economy, environmental compatibility, safety, and design.

Daimler insures future customers that the new Canter has been built in compliance with the Commercial Vehicle Development System, which calls for the vehicles to go through ten quality gates during the development process.

The Canter is now in its eight generation, with the latest version being the result of four and a half years of development. Even if it hasn't been launched yet, the model already covered a total of 3.2 million kilometers (close to 2 million miles) worldwide during the testing process it went through.
