New Cats Ready to Pounce: Jaguar XKR-S Convertible and XFR-S Coming

Back in March, the Geneva motor show was the stomping ground for a number of refreshed and new Jaguar cars and technologies. Sure, the idea of a big four-door Jag saloon being powered by a little 2.2-liter diesel might strike some as being a bit dull, but the British company need to provide more global products that sell well in order to keep making the fast cars we all love.

Speaking of powerful, svelte new cats, it looks like the success of the XKR-S has spurred engineer to dream up a convertible version, as well as a mighty XFR-S saloon. Auto Express reports that the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine from the coupe will be dropped inside the convertible XK. Even with no roof over your head, you can expect this to be a true performance machine.

You can expect the soft-top model to be a bit more expensive and to arrive with the usual XKR-S goodies, such a wider wheelarches, carbon fiber splitters and enlarged air intakes. The car’s electronically limited top speed should also be lifted to the 186 mph mark.

That very same 550 hp supercharged V8 will also be dropped inside the XFR’s engine bay. The move is necessary to keep the saloon on relative par with the upcoming BMW M5 and Audi RS6, tough we expect both German models will produce more power than this. Expect 0-60 mph (98 km/h) times of around 4.0 seconds for the new XFR-S, as well as a top speed in excess of 180 mph.

Both cars are expected to get the same active exhaust as the XKR-S. This bypasses the rear silencer under hard acceleration to give an aggressive growl.
