The new Buick Riviera concept vehicle made its global debut today at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show.
Taking its name from the iconic Riviera two-door hardtop that was introduced back in 1963, Buick’s new concept is described as a coupe that “combines avant-garde aesthetics and advanced technology”.
Gifted with GM’s all-new dual-mode W-PHEV propulsion system, the Riviera concept is the fourth vehicle jointly developed by Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) and the company says its designers took inspiration from the Chinese saying “The greatest good is like water.”
"Riviera is a design study of the future expression of Buick design with its elegant athletic shape, sculptural beauty, and precision execution," said Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design. "It is a great opportunity to share Buick's future design language and technology strategy."
Packed with the latest safety and convenience technology, the Buick Riviera concept is also equipped with four-wheel steering, electromagnetic-controlled suspension and an air spring package for “sure handling and comfort in extreme conditions”.
The new Buick Riviera concept will be featured at the Buick stand in Shanghai until April 29.
