When it comes to Tesla Motors, most fans of the company know how it all started and how the electric vehicle manufacturer is doing these days. The unrivaled Model S, the upcoming Model X crossover and the gargantuan Gigafactory battery plant are only the most recent Tesla endeavors.
For the entire 11-year-long story, a recently released book by Charles Morris is probably the best way to find out about the risks and hardships of founding your own company specialized in making electric vehicles. The Tesla story started with the Roadster, which was basically and over-ballasted Lotus Elise.

The man behind the Palo Alto-based firm is South African-born Elon Reeve Musk, a first rate investor widely known for its work with the SpaceX space transport program, PayPal and Zip2. Although he's worth $12 billion, his salary at Tesla Motors is a symbolic $1 per year. But to become this great, Elon made considerable efforts over the years, when Tesla was still a minor player in the EV world.

Available for Kindle and priced at $11.15, Charles Morris' book is titled "Tesla Motors: How Elon Musk and Company Made Electric Cars Cool, and Sparked the Next Tech Revolution." Although the book's description on Amazon starts with "In its ten years of existence," which is factually incorrect, we checked out the table of contents and a few preview pages. The bottom line is that this book has been written by a guy that's the senior editor of Charged, who conducted personal interviews with two of Tesla’s founders and two AC Propulsion members instrumental for the Roadster's development.

He also cites over 300 secondary sources, with links to a wealth of further reading, so there are a lot of technical, business, marketing, political and social aspects to the Tesla Motors success story. After all, Tesla Motors is the most exciting business and technology story of the 21st century, ain't it?
