New 300 hp Volkswagen Golf R Makes Dynamic Debut

In many ways, the VW Golf is a perfect demonstration of the difference between what regular people want to buy and what crazy journalists think they should buy.
With four wheel drive and a turbocharged engine at the front, it shouldn't be very fun to drive, but the ultimate Golf has always been something to be desired for everybody stuck in a boring family car, from the R32 to the R20.

Now though, that fantasy formula has been fitted into the body of the lighter Golf 7. This isn't the only mad hatch in the VAG family, since Audi also makes the S3. In fact, the new Golf R and the S3 share the same 300 hp turbo engine.

A 300 hp Golf, an S3 on a budget? Now that sounds pretty crazy, and this commercial released ahead of the R's Frankfurt debut is all about lunacy. In it, a janitor who's feeling sorry for himself get the ride of his life with WRC star driver Sebastien Ogier behind the wheel.
