2014 VW Golf R Keeping Up With a Cayman on the Nurburgring

The purists will tell you Porsche needs to make naturally aspirated engines with manual gearboxes. Of course, in the real world, that just doesn't cut it any more. It all started with the BMW 135i coupe (outgoing model) proving to be faster than the same-money Cayman.
Hot hatches are walking all over Porsche territory and this is probably the worst. A car that could be confused for your mom's Volkswagen has the performance to take on the Cayman as well.

Only yesterday, VW announced the Mk7 Golf R has 300 horsepower at its disposal. With the help of an optional DSG gearbox, it reaches 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. That Cayman you see in the video only has 265 horsepower and takes 5.8 seconds to reach the same speed.

The guys at TouriClips captured this video footage on the 13th of this month, basically a week before the 300 hp Golf R went official. The car is being driven around the Ring with GTI badges on it, but there's no mistaking the R underneath. We have no proof of this, but there's a good chance the Porsche Cayman was being used as a benchmark, not for fun but for outright speed.
