It’s possible to break a headlamp during one of your extreme off-road sessions in the mighty Toyota FJ Cruiser, so here is a tutorial on how to change it yourself.
You will only need the replacement headlight assembly or whatever is broken, a flathead and a Phillips screwdriver. The headlights are hold onto the frame with four screws, but two of them are hidden bellow the front grille, which you’ll need to take off. Here are the steps:
- Open up the hood
- Pop-off the clips on both ends of the front grille and remove the screw in the two upper screws that are holding it fixed on the frame
- Pull the grille towards you and pry open the rest of its mounting points with the screwdriver
- Grab the grille and take it out. Also pull out the lower plastic trim of the headlight
- Now, with the headlights exposed, remove the four screws that keep each of them attached
- Take out the headlight and remove it’s wire connections - one is a “twist and pull”, the other is just a “pull” connection
- Replace what needs to be replaced and put everything back by following the steps above in reverse order.
