The new C4 Picasso from Citroen is built around a completely new platform. It's lighter, roomier, more compact and more modern. But all that means nothing for a family car like this if it's not safe as well.
Fortunately, recent Euro NCAP tests revealed the C4 Picasso is also very safe, earning 5 stars overall. As per usual, we like to go a little deeper and find out exactly how safe a car really is.
For adult occupant protection, the Picasso scored 86%, which isn't class-leading. The one biggest fault with the car was that during the severe side pole test, protection of the driver's torso was bad, showing the C4 could have had better door protection.
Child occupant protection was good for both the 18 month and 3 month old test dummies, so the Citroen MPV received good scores there, and it was also quite good at protecting pedestrian.
Electronic stability control is standard equipment and met Euro NCAP's test requirements. The video below shows how dangerous driving the C4 could have been if the ESC wasn't there. The car almost rolls, lifting one wheel clearly off the ground. But this shouldn't be a concern for buyers because the stability system is standard and always stays on.
