Everyone is now hyped around the crossover, SUV, and EV pickup truck bandwagon. Whether it’s Tesla, Ford, Chevrolet, or even Toyota. That is in the real world, of course.
A little ahead of Chevrolet’s direct blow at the heart of the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, Toyota tried (successfully, some might say) to become the coolest OEM on the battery EV block in just one swift announcement. And they had everything, from little sports cars to big EV trucks or luxury zero-emission crossover SUVs.

Now, as Ford and Chevy are starting to duke it out in the EV truck field, a certain virtual artist does not care about the EV fashion and even discards Toyota’s newfound battery-sustainable vogue. Frankly, the CGI expert also discards an ICE representative of the current JDM family, as if the Toyota-Subaru brotherhood never was.

It is all because he wants that juicy mid-engine twist. And we think everyone knows where this is going. Oscar Vargas, the pixel master better known as wb.artist20 on social media, returns after a rather lengthy hiatus and does not care about the current GR86-BRZ trends if he can have his mid-engine way.

Just like many other digital content creators before him, he resorted to reimagine the funky 1984-2007 Toyota MR2 – aka the company’s “mid-ship run-about 2-seater.” Sure, others think it just refers to “mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-seater,” but who are we to debate history? Let us talk about the future, shall we?

As much as we love this direct homage to the second-generation MR2, frankly, we are glad this is merely wishful thinking. Instead, with the GR86 clearly on a course of successful collision with the shrinking ICE sports car market, we prefer to bet on the potential fortune of Toyota’s OEM proposition on the matter.

After all, the small and fun battery-powered Toyota Sports EV looks a tad better prepared for the zero-emission revolution to come. And not just technically, but also from the design standpoint...
