After Criterion Software and EA Games launched Need for Speed Unbound in November 2022, the game got a mixed reception from critics and players alike. On Steam, it's currently sitting with a 62% Mixed Review verdict. At the same time, no matter what EA does with NFS, it looks like the company will always get flak. Unless it's the rumored Most Wanted remake that's been floating around in the news lately.
Before we get into it, though, let's get through some juicy rumors. First, a new Need for Speed title might already be in the works, according to a job posting. That doesn't surprise anyone, but it's good to know that Criterion is working hard on the next installment.

The essential part of the job listing was, "We are looking for an experienced World Artist to help us on our new and exciting endeavor to create an open world offering the player a fast, visceral, and authentic experience." Unless EA's developing a new IP, it's safe to place a bet on a new NFS or even on Unbound 2.

While we're still in the rumor mill, the most exciting one is a remake of Need for Speed Most Wanted, the holiest iteration of the franchise. The entire uproar started when an actress from the original game tweeted (now deleted) about a remake version of Most Wanted. If it turns out to be accurate, then it seems like EA has it in the bag, with old actors returning.

Recently, EA Motive Studio remade Dead Space which turned out to be an exceptional game in 2023, even though it's built on the bones of the original 2008 masterpiece, helmed by Glen Schofield. We might be looking at a fantastic game if they put the same passion into the NFS MW remake.

Now back to our side of the road, NFS Unbound is about to get hit with Vol. 4 on August 16. First on our list is the 75-year Porsche celebration event, much like Xbox did with its special edition Xbox Series X consoles.

If you reach rank 50 in Speed Pass, you'll be rewarded with a 1997 Legendary Custom Porsche 911 Carrera S. To drive the 2022 fully electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S, you must finish the special Porsche Playlist three times. Also, they've increased Speed Pass with 75 ranks and are offering 75 free customization items.

Next, they introduced the Gauntlet Playlist, where you'll drive away from the cops using all your skill. New Linkup Areas are also waiting for you. When you hit the streets of Lakeshore Online, you will find some Playlists "Boosted," which yield greater rewards for a limited time.

The daily, weekly, and one-off challenges have been refreshed, so you don't get bored with the 50 Daily and 39 Weekly ones and the new 15 one-shots for the Porsche Playlist. If you played Need for Speed: Heat, check your garage because a 1993 McLaren F1 might be waiting for you as a "thank you."

New additions to Vol. 4 include the 2017 Legendary Custom Mercedes-AMG G, the 2006 Legendary Custom Lotus Exige S, the 1993 NISSAN Skyline GT-R V·spec from NFS Underground, as well as Rachel's 2008 NISSAN 350Z from Underground 2.

Finally, if you're an EA Play subscriber and own Unbound, you will be rewarded with the 2021 electric neon 25th Anniversary Legendary Custom Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4.
