Last month we were reporting that Ford sold no less than 9,243 Mustangs and crushed its main GM-built rival, the Camaro. Well, things look a lot different in July, when the Blue Oval-badged musclecar took a nosedive with only 5,768 units delivered.
Down 21.7 percent when compared to July 2012 and 37.5 percent when compared to last month, the Mustang was outsold by the Chevrolet Camaro, with 7,969 examples shipped. Unlike the Mustang, the Camaro reported a 15 percent increase over July 2012. As for the third competitor in the musclecar segment, Chrysler sold 4,271 Dodge Challengers in July, a drop of 16.3 percent over last month.

All told, Chevrolet has regained its top spot in the year-to-date musclecar ranking, having sold 50,281 Camaros since January. The Ford Mustang remains a close second with 48,879 units, while the Dodge Challenger surpasses the 30,000 mark with 34,253 examples delivered.

We can't help but wonder if Mustang sales will bounce back with the redesgined 2015 model underway.
