Multi-Port Fast Chargers Get CHAdeMO Certification

In what may very well be the first major achievement for CHAdeMO, the organization set up back in 2010 by a coalition of Japanese automakers (led by Nissan, Toyota and Tokyo Electric Power) to create the standards for the electric vehicle market, the Terra multi-port fast chargers manufactured by Epyon were given the compliance certification.

This means that two of the products manufactured by the charging solutions provider, Terra Base Station 50.x and Terra Base Station 100.x (capable of charging up to four electric vehicles simultaneously in as little as 15 minutes) can now be safely deployed throughout Europe.

"This certification underlines that Epyon chargers are compatible with all EVs entering the market today,” said Wil van Gils, Epyon's CTO.

“The ease with which we were able to certify two multi-port chargers simultaneously and the fact that we are the first to achieve that underlines our global front-runner position in intelligent fast-charging systems."

The advantages of using these types of chargers are obvious, starting with saving space, going to solving queuing problems and ending with the ability to charge EVs using different protocols. During tests conducted in December, Epyon successfully charged two Mitsubishi i-MiEVs and an EV van with different versions of the CHAdeMO protocol.

The web-updateable stations support a DC CHAdeMO-compliant connection up to 50kW, while the AC connection complies with the European standards Mennekes, SCAME or J1772.

As a bonus, CHAdeMO also gave the green light for the company's Terra 51 single port charger, which is intended for use in areas with low-EV traffic.
