Motor shows are getting bigger by the day as manufacturers are replacing their cars faster and have the capability to develop new designs from existing platforms. This means there’s a new car coming out every other week now, and even the concepts these days are almost production-ready.
For these reasons, the Opel Monza Concept went relatively unnoticed in Frankfurt. It’s not that amazing to look like and we know for a fact that GM won’t give them se money to make a sportscar like this. But two months after the IAA, the importance of the coupe becomes clearer.
The single overriding idea of the Monza is that it previews the next generation of Opel design, and we think that specifically means the next Astra. During a recent interview, GM Europe Vice President of Design Mark Adams said he’s happy with the Astra J, but the next one will focus on technology and will look different. All-LED headlights and a digital instrument cluster have been installed on the Monza and as you may have notice, these features are becoming available on compacts. These are just two aspects where the concept of late 2013 stands to influence the production car of 2015.
