Mitsubishi-Powered Mustang Says "No" to Big Blocks

Before you start releasing your giggles, we have to explain that the 4G63 Mitsu unit received some rather extreme technical touches. We’re talking Borg Warner turbo here, an 80 mm unit to be more precise. This pushes a piston-pushing boost of 56 lbs (that’s 3.8 bar for folks over in Europe). Moreover, the thing is also fed a 200 units nitrous shot whenever the driver feels like it.

Further down the power line, we find a Powerglide transmission, a unit that has no issues with all the madness of the four-cylinder engine.

As a result, this Mitsu-Stang was dynoed at 950 HP, not exactly bad for its 2,650 lbs (1,200 kg) weight. Of course, a nice setup on paper doesn’t necessarily translate into a proper way of impressing the timing equipment.

Well, that’s not the case here, as the Mustang does the 1/8 mile game in 5.12s at 136 mph (219 km/h). To put in in quarter mile terms, this car is in the low 8-second area.

Then there’s sound of the thing. The video description states this and your ears will instantly confirm it: the boosted 4G63 has an unique aural presence at the strip. The mechanical noise is all here, the turbo flavor is super-strong, but, in the end, it’s the resulting high pitch that makes people turn heads.

We applaud the effort of building something with a special aroma, but we have to explain that this unique x275 car doesn’t seem to be winning to many races. At least that’s what we noticed in the clip above, which shows the fox-bodied Mustang going against multiple opponents in 1/8 mile events.

Oh and by the way, in case you were wondering who the girl from the clip is, her name is Jessica. She seems to have no problem with the import origin of the Mustang’s horses.
