When MINI said that their customers have been asking for a four-door version of their Hardtop, everyone thought they were just justifying a poor decision. The numbers are in though and it turns out the new version is a hit.
For March, MINI decided to split its sales volume on models and show us exactly how each car is performing. Surprising or not, 3,294 4-door MINIs were sold so far in 2015, accounting for roughly 40 percent of all hardtops sold so far.

That means that four out of every ten MINI Hardtop models sold this year were a 4-door model which is pretty impressive. Taking a closer look reveals that the Hardtop was also up in sales by 429% in March, selling 3,635 units in total. Over the first quarter, the numbers are up by 319 percent to 8,224 cars in total.

The rest of the sales went to the Countryman which recorded a decrease in demand compared to last year (3,225 units versus 4,305 in 2014). At the same time, the Convertible was sold in marginally larger numbers, while the Roadster, Paceman and Coupes went down as the company confirmed they will be retired.

The worst out of the entire line-up is the Clubman that was sold in only 5 units so far compared to the first three quarters of 2014 when 780 were delivered.

Therefore, as it turns out, the MINI 4-door Hardtop is a success and numbers can get even better in the future, once the market gets used to it. The claim that customers actually wanted easier access in the back seems well founded and it appears like the Brits have another winner on their hands. The worldwide figures are still being compiled as we speak so we’ll have to wait and see if the same applies to other markets.
