MINI 5-Door Hatch Commercial Shows You What’s New

The new MINI 5-door Hatch is now available for purchase and does solve a couple of problems that owners used to complain about when only the 3-door alternative was available. However, now there’s a different crowd complaining about different things.

Of course, the purists won’t accept any kind of growth in this car’s size. Even a millimeter extra is a sacrilege for them, not to mention how they took the added doors at the back. That doesn’t mean that MINI forgot all about them.

As we told you, in the future, the hardtop will grow even bigger, rivaling cars such as the Golf in size but in the meantime, a smaller, Rocketman-inspired version will come to life, to appeal to those looking for the smallest cars on the market.

Getting back at the recent commercial MINI published on its Youtube account, we should tell you that it’s basically an introduction to everything that’s new on the Mk3 version.

Yes, you get two extra doors at the back and they required a longer wheelbase to be useful. In this regard, the 5-door MINI is now 16 cm longer than its 3-door brother. That, in turn, translates into more room in the back both for your legs but also for your head and elbows.

The boot has been only slightly enlarged though, offering that little bit more room for your luggage. Those changes were translated in extra weight so if you’re expecting the same handling on the bigger car as on the 3-door alternative, you’re a dreamer.

Optional features make the interior come alive

Between the two hardtops, the changes that happened inside the cabin are small, if you exclude the rear seats, of course. The same iDrive-derived infotainment system welcomes you, now offering a lot more apps than before.

Basically, you can do virtually anything inside the Mk3 models, from using Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare to navigating on the Internet. Other interesting tricks the new cars are capable of include automatic parking and a head-up display system that shows you exactly what you need to know without taking your eyes off the road.

All of these and more are showcased in the latest commercial from MINI. Prices for the 5-door Hardtop start at $21,700 MSRP, just $1,000 more than the 3-door alternative. If you’re a more practical type of person and love the MINI design, this is the car for you.
