MINI decided to approach a new niche when they started developing the 5-door hardtop. Actually, that should be called a sub-niche as the customers that will go for this model will mostly come from the usual 3-door buyers. This one though, offers a bit more practicality.
Put them next to each other and you’ll notice that there’s really almost nothing in between them. The 5-door version is 161 millimeters longer to offer more space inside and make room for the extra doors. Other than that nothing is changed. The design is the same both in and out.

Oh, there is something that’s rather different: the pricing. The US website just got its new configurator and you can now see exactly how much your possible 5-door hardtop would cost.

The starting prices differ just by $1,000 in either Cooper or Cooper S guises. The 5-door Cooper starts at $21,450 (including destination) while the Cooper S goes for at least $25,100. We said at least because there are plenty of things you can deck your car with.

The configurator itself is extremely easy to use and a breath of fresh air compared to BMW’s ones as it clearly explains exactly what you get for the money without using fancy words or all sorts of abbreviations.

We did find some things rather surprising though, like the fact that you actually have to pay $100 for the rear fog lights, for example. Even so, a fully decked Cooper S rose to nearly $39,000 and that’s before going deep into the MINI Accessories range. That could very well burn a hole in your pockets so you might wanna be careful.
