BMW i8 Configurator Live on German Website

After BMW officially launched the i8 last year, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, everyone started wondering how much it would cost. Sure, the Germans released the starting prices for their hybrid sports car but we all know that those won’t be near what you’ll actually end up paying.

Now, the configurator for the new i8 is live on BMW’s German website, allowing you to see exactly how much one of these would cost, if it was decked to your own desires.

First of all, you’ll go through the exterior choices, where the special character of the i8 will show up first. Here, you only get to choose the exterior color and the wheels, no M Sport or Luxury lines being available.

You get to pick out of 4 exterior colors: Ionic Silver, Crystal White, Protonic Blue and Sophisto Grey. This is also where you choose the color for your accents seen on the side skirts and the rear bumper.

Up next you take your pick out of 3 different wheel styles, all of them 20” in diameter. That’s about it for the outside of the car. Stepping inside you start looking for more money to get your perfect combination of colors.

Over here, you get the BMW i Neso design for free. You’ll have to pay €1,500 more for the black Carpo choice and €2,700 for the top of the range Halo choice that comes with blue seatbelts and naturally tanned leather.

As for special packages and optional features, don’t expect too many of them, as the car comes fitted with plenty of kit as standard. The ConnectedDrive suite is included for example. However, if you want to go all out, you have to get the so-called BMW i Interior Design Pure Impulse that costs €19,000.

For that you get leather all around, even on top of the instrument cluster, the door panels and the steering wheel, with a contrasting silver ring. Also included are ceramic trims on the gear selector, i8 signets in the headrests, calipers painted black with the ‘BMW i’ logo on them and floor mats with black leather piping and accent stitching. Oh, and the engine cover is wrapped in leather as well.

Thinking forward, BMW is also including a BMW i Pure Impulse Card in the €19,000 that will provide you with the latest info on gourmet catering, the latest findings in sustainable design and future trends. You also get to attend a special event that is supposed to open your eyes to the future and the latest trends. It all sound pretty much like marketing at its best.

You get things like a Harman Kardon audio system, Driving Assistant, Park Distance Control, Professional Navigation System and others as standard. What you’ll have to pay for is Comfort Access, DAB Tuner, Internet and Online Entertainment.

A fully decked model, with all the extra optional features, including the Pure Impulse package will add up to €148,500. However, that doesn’t include the laser lights that are not yet available in the configurator.

Rumors say that those alone will cost around ... €10,000! Is it a lot? Well, let’s take a look at what the competition is charging you for similar lights... There’s none.

BMW is the only manufacturer at the moment that has these lights available. Sure, there’s also the Audi R8 LMX but if you want a car from Ingolstadt fitted with such futuristic headlights you’ll have to pay €210,000 for the whole R8. Oh, and that’s if you’re lucky enough to grab one of the only 99 ever to be built.
