The all-new MINI Countryman Electric has just made debut in North America. It is the first time the model with zero emissions sets wheels on American soil.
MINI chose just the right moment to bring the Countryman Electric to the US: during Climate Week NYC, the largest annual event of its kind. The car is on display at the special panel called Driving Forward: The Transformation of Future Mobility, hosted by URBAN-X, the urban tech startup platform by MINI.

The new electric MINI was unveiled at the IAA Mobility in Munich, Germany, at the beginning of this month. With the electric version of their largest model, the brand takes one more step towards an entirely electric portfolio. That is set to happen by 2030, which is five years before European regulators ban the ICE-powered cars.

The MINI reps credit the Countryman Electric with characteristics that keep the "fun to drive" spirit going. It comes in two variants, the E and SE ALL4. The E gets 201 horsepower (204 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm), delivered to the front axle for a run from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 106 mph (170 kph). The front-wheel drive electric MINI Countryman drives for 287 miles (462 kilometers) before it needs to be plugged in again, according to the WLTP testing cycle.

The SE ALL4 benefits from the presence of two electric motors that generate 308 horsepower (313 PS) and 364 lb-ft (493 Nm) in an all-wheel drive setup, runs from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in 5.6 seconds and hits 112 mph (180 kph). The all-wheel comes with a range of 269 miles (433 kilometers).

Together with the EV, BMW brought the CE-04 battery electric scooter and a BMW iX5 Hydrogen prototype to confirm the brand's devotion to developing models with alternative propulsion. The crossover has recently returned from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where it underwent hot-weather testing and passed with flying colors.

And that was just a stage of the tests carried out around the world by BMW. In February, a pilot fleet of nearly 100 cars was deployed around the world. They were spotted in Europe, Japan, Korea, China, the United States, and the Middle East.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is powered by a system that integrates the hydrogen fuel cell stack, capable of generating 167 horsepower (170 PS) from hydrogen, emitting only pure water. An electric motor brings along 228 horsepower (231 PS) for a total of 396 horsepower (401 PS). The iX5 Hydrogen can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0-62 mph) in under 6 seconds. The total range of the model is of 313 miles (504 kilometers), also by WLTP standard.
