With the Salone del Mobile kicking off, yesterday carmakers have already started showcasing their interpretations. Some went for non-automotive lifestyle products such as furniture or collectibles, BMW decided to reinvent their 2014 MINI Citysurfer Concept, a green scooter the Germans unveiled last year.
Since we are talking about an international furniture fair, BMW couldn’t just recycle an older concept and bring it to the event, so they had a Spanish artist reinvent it. They have joined forces with the designer Jaime Hayon and created a multi-faceted installation that presents the artist’s personal vision of urban mobility in the future in the shape of an imaginary living space.

The flexible electric kick-scooter gets around town that is even more individual and smarter. Hayon has created two versions of the two-wheeler. The first features the surfaces of an artistic and playful version that recalls blue and white porcelain. Graphical dots and stripes in rich color tones make it express a cheerful pattern.

The second "artistic" scooter is an elegant and refined interpretation using high-grade materials. Copper and subdued shades of green are the dominating color scheme. Handlebar grips made of naturally colored leather, anodized metal, and polished copper details, all refine a modern look combined with classical elements.

Hayon's Urban Jungle

The Spanish artist has used the MINI Citysurfer Concept in order to create a space that represents his idea of the “urban jungle”. His streets of marble stretch out towards an imaginary destination of shining blue columns. Instead of signs, the artists assumes one is guided through traffic by simple dots, lines, and reflective surfaces. MINI claims Hayon’s installation gives the visitor a unique sense of immersion in an imaginary space.
