Michael Schumacher Crashes Bike at Over 135 Mph

Michael Schumacher may have picked the wrong hobby following his retirement from Formula 1. Riding motorcycles at over 135 mph, as fun as it may seem, is usually a quite dangerous task. The seven-time world champion experienced it for himself during a test with German Superbike team Holzhauer Racing on Tuesday.

The German ace was handed a 1000cc Honda Fireblade to test drive on the Cartagena race track by the German outfit, but the testing session ended at the hospital. According to the Spanish media, Schumacher suffered several neck and wrist injuries, while also breaking his ribs when crashing his bike at over 135 mph.

He allegedly lied unconsciously to the ground for several minutes and was immediately taken to the nearest hospital in Virgen de Arrixaca. The very next day, he was released from hospital with a minor concussion, as the doctors insisted the injuries were not that serious as initially announced. After assuring the media he was ok, Schumacher left for his home in Switzerland.

“I was driving down the start-finish straight and then braking into the first corner I hit some bumps which made me fall. The checks in the hospital showed nothing and I am fine,” said Schumacher after being released from hospital. His spokeswoman Sabine Kehm later explained to the media that Schumacher did not sustain any bone ruptures in the crash.

This is not the first time Schumacher crashes out while riding a Suberbike machinery. In May last year, the former Ferrari-an crashed out of an IDM German Superbike Championship race after trying to make his way into the pack of riders.
