German truck manufacturer Mercedes-Benz announced today it had signed a supply agreement with Finnish commercial vehicle manufacturer Oy Sisu Auto, calling for the Germans to supply truck components.
According to the agreement, Mercedes-Benz will supply components for between 200 and 400 vehicles. On its part, Sisu will supply the frames, axles, and drive shafts for the trucks. The parts to be supplied by Mercedes are the same as the ones used on the Actros. The vehicles manufactured by the two will be used in the forestry and construction business.
The financial terms of the new agreement between the two have not been revealed
“We are delighted with this very promising partnership and the fact that Sisu selected us to supply it with high-quality Mercedes-Benz truck components,” said Mercedes-Benz Trucks executive Hubertus Troska.
“Sisu is a traditional brand that is known for its first-class trucks. With the signing of this contract we are opening up a new area of business and generating additional sales potential for our vehicle components.”
The first vehicles built by Sisu using Mercedes-Ben components will be delivered to customers in March 2011. They will be sold through the Veho Commercial Vehicles sales network in Finland. Veho hopes to score big with the new vehicles, as the commercial vehicle market in Finland is experiencing a comeback from the disastrous 2009.
In perhaps the most difficult year in automotive history, the Finns sold 2,600 units, way down from the 3,500 trucks sold in a normal year. Of them, the 390 Mercedes-Benz trucks account for 15 percent of the local market.
