Daimler Ready to Celebrate 125 Years Since First Car

2011 will be a very special year for the Germans from Daimler. As soon as we enter the new year, the company plans to make every day of the year a celebration. After all, you can celebrate only once the 125th anniversary on the first patent filing for a car.

Back in 1886, Carl Benz filed for a patent for the now famous vehicle with gas engine drive at the Berlin Patent Office. To celebrate that moment, Daimler will kick off the anniversary year on January 29 at the Mercedes-Benz World in Stuttgart. According to Daimler, the celebration in January will be adorned with the presence of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“The invention of Daimler and Benz changed the world for the better - and it will continue to do so. As the inventor we also have the claim to shape the future of mobility: with fascinating brands, green technologies and new business opportunities. We have many ideas!" said Dieter Zetsche, Daimler chairman of the board.

The rest of the year will pass under the motto “125! years of innovation.” A publicity campaign for Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars will be kicked off in January, followed by the guest exhibition ART 125! at Mercedes-Benz World from May to September.

Sport fans will be able to enjoy an international soccer match between Germany and Brazil in the reconditioned Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart on August 10, while earlier in the summer Mercedes-Benz plans the biggest meeting of Mercedes-Benz Clubs of all times.

And we reckon more is to come from the carmaker, so we'll keep a close watch for special MB events next year.
